Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Geriatric Music Program Lead to join our team in New Port Richey, FL. This flexible full-time role involves designing, implementing, and overseeing music-based therapeutic programs for our senior residents. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of geriatric care, a passion for music, and the ability to create engaging, person-centered experiences that enhance quality of life. You will work closely with residents, staff, and families to foster a vibrant and harmonious community atmosphere, utilizing music to support cognitive function, emotional well-being, and social interaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and lead a diverse range of music programs tailored to the needs and preferences of senior residents, including group sessions, one-on-one interventions, and special events.
  • Assess residents' musical interests, abilities, and therapeutic goals to create individualized and group music therapy plans.
  • Integrate music into daily activities and special occasions, collaborating with the activities and care teams.
  • Train and mentor junior staff or volunteers on the implementation of music-related activities.
  • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of musical instruments and resources, ensuring their proper care and accessibility.
  • Document resident participation, progress, and responses to music interventions, adapting programs as necessary.
  • Stay current with best practices in geriatric music therapy and sensory engagement for older adults.
  • Ensure programs comply with all relevant health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Manage budget and resources allocated for music programming efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy, Music Education, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care or assisted living setting
  • Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument (e.g., piano, guitar)
  • Strong understanding of the therapeutic benefits of music for older adults, including those with cognitive impairments
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends for special events
  • Demonstrated leadership and program management abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field
  • Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC)
  • Experience with diverse musical genres and cultural backgrounds
  • Familiarity with electronic music equipment and adaptive instruments
