Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Geriatric Music Program Lead to join our team in Uptown, New Orleans. This flexible full-time position involves designing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive music program tailored for our senior residents. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of geriatric care, a strong musical background, and a creative approach to engaging seniors through the power of music. You will be responsible for developing therapeutic and recreational music activities, managing program resources, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to enhance the overall well-being and quality of life for our residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement a diverse range of music programs and activities suitable for seniors with varying cognitive and physical abilities.
  • Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions, sing-alongs, musical performances, and educational workshops.
  • Assess residents' needs and preferences to customize musical experiences that promote cognitive function, emotional expression, physical movement, and social interaction.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers or assistant staff involved in music program delivery.
  • Manage the program budget, procure musical instruments and resources, and maintain equipment.
  • Collaborate with the care team, activity directors, and family members to integrate music into care plans and community events.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through resident feedback and participation rates, making adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of resident participation and progress.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and privacy regulations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in developing and leading music programs for seniors or individuals with cognitive impairments.
  • Strong musical proficiency (e.g., ability to play an instrument, lead singing, knowledge of various musical genres).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with the elderly.
  • Ability to adapt programs to meet the diverse needs and interests of residents.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and program planning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy, Music Education, Gerontology, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Music Therapist (MT-BC).
  • Experience in a senior living community or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of adaptive music techniques and assistive technologies.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
