Job Description

Join Henry Ford Health System as a Weekend Patient Sitter and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our patients. This part-time position is ideal for individuals seeking a low-stress, impactful role within a hospital setting, perfect for supplementing income or gaining valuable healthcare exposure. As a Patient Sitter, you will provide continuous direct observation of assigned patients who are at risk for injury, contributing to a secure and healing environment. This role requires vigilance, compassion, and a commitment to patient well-being, all within a structured and supportive team framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous, direct visual observation of assigned patients at all times.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Promptly report any changes in patient condition, behavior, or safety risks to nursing staff.
  • Engage with patients in a respectful and reassuring manner, offering companionship as appropriate.
  • Assist patients with non-medical needs, such as finding comfortable positions or fetching items within reach, under the direction of nursing staff.
  • Document observations as required by hospital policy.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality (HIPAA).

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or patient care setting (volunteer or paid).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and comfort.
