Job Description

Petco is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Pet Food Store Nutritional Advisor to join our team in Sacramento, CA. In this vital role, you will be the go-to expert for pet nutrition, guiding customers through our diverse selection of high-quality pet foods, supplements, and treats. You will provide personalized recommendations, educate pet parents on the benefits of proper diet, and ensure every pet has the best chance at a happy, healthy life. This position combines expert consultation with active retail sales, contributing to a vibrant and supportive store atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with customers to understand their pets' specific dietary needs and health concerns.
- Provide expert, evidence-based recommendations on pet food, supplements, and nutritional programs.
- Educate pet parents on product ingredients, benefits, and proper feeding practices.
- Actively drive sales of pet food and related nutritional products.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of current pet nutrition trends, product offerings, and competitor products.
- Ensure the pet food aisles are well-stocked, clean, and merchandised according to company standards.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, stocking, and rotating products.
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems and handle transactions accurately.
- Support general store operations, including cleaning, organizing, and customer service tasks.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance nutritional expertise.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for animal health, wellness, and nutrition.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service.
- Basic understanding of retail sales principles and practices.
- Ability to learn and retain complex product information.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in pet retail, veterinary assistant roles, or a related animal care field.
- Knowledge of various pet diets (e.g., raw, grain-free, limited ingredient).
- Certification in pet nutrition or animal health-related studies.
- Familiarity with Petco's product lines and services.
- Experience with POS systems and cash handling.
