Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Google Network Support Engineer to join our dynamic team. This hybrid role combines on-site field support across our Berkshire facilities with remote technical assistance, ensuring the seamless operation and optimal performance of critical network infrastructure, particularly those integrated with Google technologies. You will be instrumental in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex network issues, collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to maintain high service availability and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert field and remote technical support for network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and Google-related network services.
- Perform hands-on diagnosis, troubleshooting, and resolution of network incidents and problems.
- Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software components.
- Monitor network performance and availability, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues.
- Collaborate with Google’s support teams and other vendors for complex problem resolution and escalations.
- Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps thoroughly.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide out-of-hours support when required.
- Ensure compliance with security policies and industry best practices.
- Travel to various company sites within Berkshire as needed for field support.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and switching technologies.
- Experience with network diagnostic tools and monitoring systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex network issues across various platforms.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) networking services (VPC, Cloud Interconnect, CDN).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid UK driving license for field support duties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cisco CCNA/CCNP or equivalent network certification.
- Google Cloud Professional Network Engineer certification.
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) for network automation.
- Knowledge of wireless networking technologies (Wi-Fi, 5G).
- Experience in a telecommunications or large enterprise environment.
