Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Hospital Porter to join our busy team at Queen Alexandra Hospital. This is a crucial role within our healthcare environment, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and supplies throughout the hospital premises. You will play a vital part in the smooth operation of our services, directly contributing to patient care and experience. This is a full-time, 37.5-hour contract position, requiring a flexible approach to working hours, including some evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, including those with limited mobility, between departments using appropriate equipment.
  • Move medical equipment, beds, trolleys, and other hospital supplies efficiently.
  • Handle and transport medical records, laboratory specimens, and pharmacy items.
  • Collect and manage clinical and general waste, linen, and other soiled items.
  • Provide compassionate and respectful assistance to patients and visitors.
  • Respond promptly to requests and emergency calls, such as cardiac arrests or fire alarms.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of portering equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, health and safety regulations, and infection control procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to perform duties that require lifting, pushing, and pulling.

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or portering role.
