Job Description
Are you a highly motivated and physically capable individual looking for an immediate opportunity to join a dynamic team? The Home Depot in Newport, Jersey City is seeking a dedicated Yard Assistant for an outdoor retail role. In this position, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our outdoor lumber and building materials yard, ensuring it is well-organized, safe, and easily accessible for our customers and associates. This is a hands-on role perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in a well-maintained workspace.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers with loading heavy and bulky items into their vehicles.
- Organize and maintain the outdoor lumber and building materials yard, ensuring products are stocked and displayed neatly.
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks safely and efficiently (training provided if necessary).
- Perform routine clean-up and maintenance tasks within the yard area to ensure a safe environment.
- Monitor inventory levels in the yard and communicate replenishment needs to supervisors.
- Support store operations by moving materials between the yard and indoor storage as required.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and directing customers to appropriate products.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) regularly and perform strenuous physical tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer and team interactions.
- Basic math skills for measuring and counting products.
- Ability to work effectively in an outdoor environment, exposed to various weather conditions.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Punctual and reliable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail, warehouse, or yard environment.
- Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment.
- Knowledge of building materials, lumber, and hardware products.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
