Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Hazardous Materials Chemist with a strong focus on safety and compliance to join our team in New Port Richey, FL. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the accurate identification, classification, and management of various hazardous materials, ensuring strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations. You will play a key role in developing and implementing safety protocols, conducting material analysis, and providing expert guidance to operational teams to maintain the highest standards of environmental protection and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory analysis and characterization of hazardous waste streams.
- Ensure accurate waste categorization and profiling in accordance with RCRA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
- Develop and implement site-specific safety plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for hazardous material handling.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies.
- Provide technical expertise and training to operational personnel on chemical properties, hazards, and safe handling practices.
- Prepare and maintain detailed records, manifests, and reports for hazardous waste shipments.
- Assist in emergency response situations involving chemical spills or releases.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections and provide necessary documentation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in hazardous waste management, chemical analysis, or environmental compliance.
- Thorough knowledge of RCRA, DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.
- Proficiency in chemical identification techniques and laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemistry or related field.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Experience with waste management software and databases.
- Previous experience in an industrial or commercial hazardous waste facility.
- Familiarity with Florida-specific environmental regulations.
