Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Hospital Admitting Nurse to join our dynamic team in Aurora. This crucial role involves a unique blend of administrative efficiency and initial clinical assessment, ensuring a smooth and supportive admission process for our patients. You will be the first clinical point of contact for many, playing a vital role in setting the tone for their hospital stay. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a compassionate approach to patient care, all while maintaining strict adherence to hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial patient interviews to gather comprehensive medical and demographic information.
  • Perform preliminary nursing assessments upon admission, including vital signs, basic health history, and current medication reconciliation.
  • Accurately document all patient information, assessments, and admission details into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Verify insurance information, obtain necessary pre-authorizations, and communicate financial responsibilities to patients or their families.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, emergency department staff, patient access, and other healthcare team members to facilitate timely and appropriate patient placement.
  • Provide clear and concise patient education regarding hospital procedures, rights, and what to expect during their stay.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, privacy regulations (HIPAA), and patient safety protocols.
  • Manage patient flow efficiently, prioritizing admissions based on medical urgency and bed availability.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for patient and family inquiries during the admission process, offering support and guidance.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Colorado.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems, preferably Epic.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, and physiology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Previous experience (1+ year) in hospital admissions, emergency department, or a similar acute care setting.
  • Familiarity with insurance verification and healthcare billing processes.
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish) is a plus.
