Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and diligent Hospital Waste Operative with a keen focus on both clinical and recyclable waste streams. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant collection, segregation, and disposal of all waste generated within our hospital facilities. You will play a crucial part in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring adherence to strict health and safety protocols and environmental regulations. This position requires a strong commitment to best practices in waste management, including the proper handling of hazardous materials and the promotion of recycling initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, segregate, and transport clinical, domestic, and recyclable waste from various departments within the hospital.
  • Ensure all waste is correctly identified, labelled, and stored according to strict regulations and internal procedures.
  • Operate waste compaction and bailing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of waste storage areas and equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor waste levels and communicate needs for collection or disposal services.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs related to waste management and safety.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Contribute to the hospital's environmental sustainability goals through diligent recycling efforts.

  • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures, particularly in a healthcare environment.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in waste management, ideally within a healthcare or similar regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of clinical waste regulations (e.g., HTM 07-01).
  • Certification in manual handling or similar health and safety training.
