Job Description
This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated Hydrographic Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Manchester, UK. We are seeking a skilled professional to conduct and supervise hydrographic surveys for various projects, primarily in marine and coastal environments. The successful candidate will be instrumental in collecting, processing, and interpreting bathymetric and other geospatial data to support critical infrastructure development, environmental monitoring, and safe navigation. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and supervise hydrographic survey operations in marine, coastal, and inland water environments.
- Operate and maintain a range of hydrographic survey equipment, including multibeam and single-beam echo sounders, side-scan sonar, magnetometers, and positioning systems (GNSS, USBL).
- Process, analyze, and interpret hydrographic survey data using specialized software (e.g., QINSy, Hypack, CARIS HIPS and SIPS).
- Prepare detailed survey reports, charts, and visualizations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards (e.g., IHO).
- Conduct quality control and quality assurance checks on all collected and processed data.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver project requirements on time and within budget.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and environmental regulations during all field operations.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of survey methodologies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Oceanography, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in hydrographic surveying.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting hydrographic survey equipment.
- Demonstrable experience with hydrographic data processing software (e.g., QINSy, Hypack, CARIS).
- Strong understanding of survey principles, geodetic datums, and coordinate systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in challenging marine environments for extended periods.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel for projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Professional certification (e.g., RICS, FIG/IHO Category A or B).
- Experience with autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) or unmanned surface vessels (USVs).
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Project management experience in a surveying context.
- Prior experience working on international projects.
