Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Energy Compliance Specialist with a strong focus on policy to join our remote team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for an individual passionate about the energy sector and regulatory affairs. You will play a crucial role in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on compliance with federal, state, and local energy regulations and company policies. This 100% remote position requires an individual who can work independently, has strong research skills, and an eagerness to learn the intricacies of energy policy and its impact on utility operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in researching, interpreting, and analyzing new and existing energy regulations, policies, and laws relevant to Mississippi Power's operations.
  • Monitor regulatory updates from FERC, EPA, state utility commissions, and other pertinent agencies.
  • Support the preparation of compliance reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with legal, engineering, environmental, and operations teams to ensure understanding and implementation of compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and organize compliance records and databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Participate in the development and review of internal policies and procedures to align with regulatory changes.
  • Identify potential compliance risks and contribute to developing mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in training initiatives to educate staff on compliance obligations and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Environmental Studies, Law, Public Policy, Energy Management, or a related field.
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal and policy documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated interest in the energy industry and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship experience in a regulatory, legal, or energy-related field.
  • Basic understanding of FERC, NERC, EPA, or state public service commission regulations.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools or compliance software.
  • Relevant certifications or coursework in energy policy or environmental law.
