Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and organised Laboratory Porter with a unique blend of on-site laboratory support and remote administrative capabilities. This hybrid role is essential for the smooth operation of our scientific laboratories, ensuring that researchers have the resources they need while also managing crucial administrative tasks. You will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, organising supplies, assisting with equipment movement, and performing administrative duties from a remote setting for a portion of your work week.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general laboratory upkeep, including cleaning workbenches, glassware, and common areas.
- Manage and organise laboratory supplies, chemicals, and reagents, ensuring proper storage and inventory rotation.
- Receive, unpack, and distribute laboratory deliveries, verifying contents against orders.
- Assist with the safe movement and setup of laboratory equipment as directed by scientific staff.
- Ensure all waste materials are segregated and disposed of according to health and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, supply levels, and disposal activities.
- Coordinate with external suppliers for laboratory material orders and deliveries.
- Utilise digital systems for inventory management, scheduling, and documentation tasks from a remote work environment.
- Support administrative functions related to lab operations, such as data entry, report generation, and meeting coordination (remote as appropriate).
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic computer proficiency for administrative tasks (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Physical ability to lift and move laboratory equipment and supplies safely.

- Understanding of basic health and safety protocols in a laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a laboratory or similar scientific environment.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems.
- Familiarity with chemical handling and waste disposal procedures.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Science or Maths.
