Job Description
As a Legal Nurse Consultant at Kelly Hart & Hallman LLP, you will play a crucial role in providing medical expertise and support to our legal teams specializing in personal injury, medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, and other health-related litigation. You will analyze complex medical records, provide expert opinions, and assist attorneys in developing strong cases. This is a dynamic position that requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of medical principles and legal processes. We offer a hybrid work model with options to work from home on designated days, providing flexibility and work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and interpret medical records, hospital policies, and other health-related documents to identify key medical facts and issues.
- Summarize and chronologize medical records, identifying deviations from standards of care, potential causation issues, and pre-existing conditions.
- Conduct comprehensive medical literature research and provide evidence-based support for legal arguments and case theories.
- Assist attorneys in drafting legal documents, including complaints, interrogatories, and motions, by providing accurate medical insights.
- Identify, locate, and screen potential expert witnesses, and prepare them thoroughly for deposition or trial testimony.
- Educate legal teams on complex medical terminology, disease processes, injuries, treatment protocols, and the healthcare system.
- Participate in client meetings, depositions, arbitrations, and trials as needed, offering medical expertise and support.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas, in good standing.
- Minimum of 5 years of recent clinical nursing experience in acute care, critical care, or a relevant specialty.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex medical information clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and disease processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple complex cases simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) or willingness to obtain within one year of hire.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher degree from an accredited institution.
- Previous experience in a legal or insurance setting as a Legal Nurse Consultant or similar role.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and medical billing practices.
