Job Description
This role involves conducting comprehensive surveys and inspections of marine vessels, offshore units, and maritime facilities to ensure compliance with international regulations, classification rules, and client specifications. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing structural integrity, machinery, safety equipment, and operational procedures, preparing detailed reports, and providing expert advice. Relocation assistance is provided for suitable candidates looking to join our dynamic team in Barcelona, a vibrant maritime hub.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform marine surveys and inspections on various vessel types (tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, offshore units) and maritime installations.
- Assess compliance with statutory regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code), classification society rules, and industry standards.
- Conduct damage surveys, on-hire/off-hire surveys, bunker surveys, and pre-purchase inspections.
- Verify the condition of hull structures, machinery systems, electrical installations, and safety equipment.
- Prepare accurate, detailed, and timely survey reports, including photographic evidence and recommendations.
- Liaise effectively with vessel owners, operators, port authorities, crew, and other stakeholders.
- Provide technical support and expert advice to clients on maritime regulations and best practices.
- Ensure all inspection activities adhere to strict health, safety, and environmental protocols.
Required Skills
- Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Marine Surveyor or Chief Engineer/Naval Architect in a maritime environment.
- In-depth knowledge of international maritime conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC) and IACS classification rules.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in using survey tools and reporting software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging environments.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification from a recognized marine surveying body (e.g., IIMS, MECAL).
- Fluency in Spanish or Catalan.
- Experience with specific vessel types or offshore structures.
- Familiarity with digital survey tools and data analysis.
