Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Medicinal Chemist Associate to join our dynamic Drug Discovery team in Fontana, CA. This role is pivotal in the synthesis of novel chemical entities for small molecule drug discovery programs across various therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, synthesizing, and purifying compounds, as well as analyzing experimental data to guide subsequent synthetic efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong foundation in organic and medicinal chemistry to contribute directly to life-changing drug discovery projects within a collaborative and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute multi-step organic synthesis of novel small molecules aimed at specific biological targets.
  • Perform purification of synthesized compounds using various chromatographic techniques (e.g., flash chromatography, HPLC).
  • Characterize synthesized compounds using analytical techniques such as NMR, LC-MS, and IR.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and propose next steps for chemical synthesis.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, record experimental procedures, and accurately report findings.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team including biologists, pharmacologists, and computational chemists.
  • Stay current with scientific literature and new developments in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery.
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field; or M.S. with 2+ years of relevant experience; or B.S. with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of modern synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Proficiency in common laboratory techniques, including reaction setup, work-up, and purification.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation such as NMR, LC-MS, and HPLC.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design synthetic routes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral experience in medicinal chemistry or industrial experience in drug discovery.
  • Experience in structure-based drug design and ligand-based drug design principles.
  • Familiarity with various chemical drawing software (e.g., ChemDraw) and scientific databases.
  • Demonstrated track record of scientific contributions (publications, presentations, patents).
