Job Description

Oversee and manage the daily operations of a state-of-the-art paleontology laboratory. This critical leadership role involves supervising lab personnel, ensuring the proper preparation, conservation, and analysis of fossil specimens, and maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities to the highest standards. The supervisor will also play a key role in research projects, collaborating with lead paleontologists and contributing to publications. This is a vital on-site position for an individual passionate about scientific discovery and meticulous lab management within a leading research institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train lab technicians and research assistants, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety protocols.
  • Manage daily lab operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
  • Oversee the precise preparation, curation, and cataloging of fossil specimens.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and best practices in fossil conservation and laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, arranging for repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate actively with paleontologists on research projects, experimental design, and data analysis.
  • Contribute to the drafting of grant proposals and scientific publications.
  • Manage lab inventory, efficiently procuring supplies and managing budgets.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in paleontology lab management or a supervisory role within a scientific research setting.
  • Expertise in fossil preparation and conservation techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of geological principles and paleontological methodologies.
  • Proficiency with standard laboratory equipment and software for data analysis and specimen management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently on critical tasks and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Paleontology, Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related scientific field.
