Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Service Assistant to join our ward-based team. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff, providing essential administrative and support services to ensure the smooth running of our hospital wards. Your work will directly contribute to a positive patient experience, supporting clinical staff, and maintaining an efficient and organised ward environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors warmly, directing them appropriately and answering general enquiries.
- Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring accurate data entry into hospital systems.
- Maintain patient records, filing, and retrieving information securely and confidentially.
- Answer telephones, taking messages accurately and relaying information to the relevant staff members.
- Support ward staff with administrative tasks, including ordering supplies and managing post.
- Assist with the coordination of patient appointments and transport arrangements.
- Ensure the ward reception area is tidy and well-organised.
- Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures, including those related to patient confidentiality and data protection.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy ward environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new systems and procedures.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an administrative or customer service role, preferably within a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of NHS systems or medical terminology.
- GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths.
