Job Description

Pet Valu is excited to offer an entry-level Pet Grooming Offsider position in our Quidi Vidi Village, St. John’s location. This unique opportunity is perfect for individuals with no prior grooming experience, as we provide comprehensive, paid training to help you become a skilled grooming professional. As an Offsider, you will work closely with experienced groomers, assisting with various tasks, learning fundamental grooming techniques, and ensuring the comfort and safety of our furry clients. This role is a fantastic stepping stone into a career where you can make a real difference in the lives of pets and their owners.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior groomers with bathing, drying, and basic brushing of pets.
- Maintain a clean and organized grooming salon, including sanitizing equipment and work areas.
- Ensure the comfort and safety of pets throughout the grooming process, following all animal handling guidelines.
- Learn and practice proper pet restraint techniques under supervision.
- Prepare grooming stations and supplies for appointments.
- Communicate effectively with pet parents regarding their pet's grooming needs and status.
- Observe and learn various grooming styles, techniques, and breed-specific requirements.
- Support the salon team with inventory management and general operational tasks.
- Provide basic customer service and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for pets and owners.
Required Skills
- Genuine love for animals and a compassionate approach to pet care.
- Strong work ethic and a desire to learn new skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina to handle various dog breeds and sizes, and to stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with animals (e.g., volunteer at a shelter, pet sitting, vet assistant).
- Customer service experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
