Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pinterest Systems Architect to join our Enterprise IT team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the architecture of complex, scalable, and resilient systems that emulate the advanced capabilities of visual discovery platforms like Pinterest. You will lead the charge in defining technical roadmaps, ensuring architectural alignment with business objectives, and driving the adoption of best practices across our enterprise infrastructure. This role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud technologies, data architecture, and a passion for building robust, high-performance solutions capable of handling massive data volumes and user interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design and implementation of large-scale, enterprise-grade systems mimicking Pinterest's visual discovery and recommendation capabilities.
  • Define technical standards, best practices, and architectural patterns for distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, and operations to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Conduct system performance analysis, capacity planning, and optimization to ensure high availability and scalability.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and methodologies to enhance system efficiency and innovation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and governance standards throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Create comprehensive architectural documentation, diagrams, and design specifications.
  • Drive the migration and modernization of legacy systems to modern cloud architectures.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in systems architecture or a similar senior technical role.
  • Deep expertise in designing and implementing highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Proficiency with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-native architectures.
  • Extensive experience with microservices, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and API design.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, databases (SQL and NoSQL), and big data technologies.
  • Solid grasp of network architecture, security protocols, and enterprise-grade security practices.
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions, make architectural decisions, and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Certifications in cloud architecture (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional).
  • Experience with machine learning pipelines, recommendation engines, or visual search technologies.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message queuing systems.
