Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Polymer Chemist to join our cutting-edge material science team in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This role is crucial for an innovative startup environment within Dow, focusing on the research, development, and characterization of novel polymeric materials. The successful candidate will contribute to projects from concept to pilot scale, applying expertise in polymer synthesis, processing, and analytical techniques to develop high-performance materials for various advanced applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments for the synthesis and modification of polymers, oligomers, and monomers.
  • Perform comprehensive characterization of new polymeric materials using techniques such as NMR, IR, GPC, DSC, TGA, DMA, and rheology.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, generating reports and presentations to communicate findings effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including material scientists, engineers, and product development specialists.
  • Develop and optimize new polymerization processes and purification methods.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development through patent applications and scientific publications.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and best practices in laboratory operations.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in polymer science and material technology.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of polymer synthesis (e.g., radical, condensation, living polymerization).
  • Proficiency in advanced polymer characterization techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute complex experimental plans.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong aptitude for innovation.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral experience or 3+ years of industrial experience in polymer R&D.
  • Experience with sustainable polymers or circular economy principles.
  • Familiarity with process scale-up and pilot plant operations.
  • Experience in advanced analytical method development.
  • Track record of scientific publications and/or patent applications.
