Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse to join our dynamic team at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. This is an immediate opening for a dedicated professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering exceptional post-operative care. The PACU Nurse is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the immediate post-operative or post-procedural period. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, ensuring patient safety, monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and educating patients and families. You will work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient recovery and outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Provide immediate post-operative and post-procedural care, including comprehensive assessment and monitoring of patient vital signs, neurological status, and pain levels.
- Administer medications, including pain relief, antiemetics, and other prescribed drugs, accurately and safely.
- Manage airways, oxygen therapy, and ventilation support as needed, responding promptly to emergent situations.
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, promptly reporting any abnormalities.
- Assess and manage surgical sites, drains, and intravenous access.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care, pain management, and discharge instructions.
- Collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Required Skills
- Current Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required upon hire
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in PACU, Critical Care, or Emergency Room setting
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Preferred Qualifications
- CPAN or CAPA certification
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience with electronic health record systems (e.g., Cerner, Epic)
