Job Description

Are you passionate about live entertainment and eager to kickstart your career behind the scenes? Wales Millennium Centre is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Stagehand / Lighting Tech (Trainee) to join our dynamic technical team in Cardiff Bay. This entry-level position is perfect for someone with little to no prior experience, offering comprehensive training and mentorship within a world-class venue. As a Trainee, you will learn the fundamentals of stagecraft and lighting technology, working alongside experienced professionals on a variety of productions, from theatrical performances to concerts and corporate events. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop hands-on skills and gain invaluable experience in the vibrant entertainment industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the safe and efficient setup and striking of stage sets, props, and equipment for various productions.
  • Learning and operating basic lighting fixtures, control boards, and related equipment under direct supervision.
  • Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on stage and lighting equipment, ensuring all gear is in optimal working condition.
  • Adhering strictly to all health and safety regulations and venue policies to ensure a safe working environment for everyone.
  • Working collaboratively with the stage management, technical, and artistic teams to support seamless production execution.
  • Proactively seeking opportunities to learn new skills and techniques from senior technicians and engineers.

Required Skills

  • A strong eagerness and willingness to learn about technical theatre and live event production.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy equipment (within safe limits and with assistance where required).
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Basic familiarity with hand tools and a mechanical aptitude is a plus.
  • Reliability and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A demonstrable interest in live performance, theatre, concerts, or events.
  • Any prior voluntary experience or participation in school/community theatre productions.
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles or technical systems, though not essential.
