Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and observant Traffic Warden to join our team, playing a crucial role in maintaining traffic flow and enforcing parking regulations across Oxford. This position offers a high hourly rate to attract dedicated individuals committed to public service and order. As a Traffic Warden, you will be on the front lines, ensuring compliance with parking restrictions, educating the public, and contributing to the overall safety and accessibility of our city’s streets. Your work will directly impact daily life, helping to reduce congestion and improve road safety for everyone.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol designated areas on foot or by vehicle to monitor parking and traffic regulations.
- Issue penalty charge notices (PCNs) to vehicles violating parking rules, accurately recording details.
- Provide information and assistance to the public regarding parking restrictions and payment methods.
- Respond to queries and complaints from the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Report defective signs, road markings, and parking meters to the appropriate department.
- Attend court as a witness when required for contested parking infractions.
- Operate handheld electronic devices for issuing PCNs and recording patrol data.
- Collaborate with emergency services and other council departments to manage traffic during special events or incidents.
Required Skills
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in potentially confrontational situations.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills for accurate record-keeping.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical fitness to patrol for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Valid UK driving license (desirable, but not essential for all roles).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a public-facing role or law enforcement.
- Knowledge of local geography and road networks within Oxford.
- Experience using handheld electronic devices for data entry and ticketing.
- Familiarity with parking regulations and relevant legislation.
