Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Port Authority Operations Assistant to join our operational team in Rotterdam. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to start a career in the maritime and logistics industry. You will receive comprehensive training and support to become an integral part of our port operations, ensuring the efficient and safe movement of vessels and cargo. This role involves shift work, which is essential to maintaining 24/7 operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring vessel movements and port traffic using advanced systems.
- Support the coordination of berthing and unberthing operations for various vessels.
- Communicate effectively with vessel captains, pilots, terminal operators, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate operational logs and contribute to incident reporting.
- Learn and apply port regulations, safety protocols, and environmental guidelines.
- Support administrative tasks related to port operations and documentation.
- Participate in regular training sessions to enhance operational knowledge and skills.
- Work effectively as part of a shift team, contributing to a collaborative environment.
Required Skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal (English and Dutch preferred).
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).
- Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to varying shift schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Problem-solving abilities and a calm demeanor under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational education (MBO) in logistics, maritime studies, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of port operations or maritime terminology.
- Experience in a demanding operational or logistical environment (even non-maritime).
- Valid driver's license (B).
