Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Veterans Affairs Policy Researcher to join our team, focusing on initiatives that lead to meaningful public work for our nation’s veterans. In this pivotal role, you will contribute to critical policy analysis, program evaluation, and strategic recommendations aimed at enhancing the well-being, employment, and transition support for veterans. This position involves deep dives into existing policies, identifying gaps, and proposing innovative solutions that align with the evolving needs of the veteran community. You will work within a dynamic environment, collaborating with subject matter experts, government stakeholders, and fellow researchers to drive evidence-based policy changes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on current Veterans Affairs policies, programs, and legislation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of existing veteran support initiatives, identifying areas for improvement.
- Develop policy briefs, reports, and presentations summarizing research findings and proposing actionable recommendations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to gather data, conduct interviews, and facilitate focus groups.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, legislative changes, and best practices in veteran affairs and public policy.
- Support the development of grant proposals and funding opportunities related to veteran services.
- Present research findings to clients, government officials, and at relevant conferences or forums.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and development of new initiatives aimed at veteran empowerment and meaningful work.
- Assist in the coordination of project activities, ensuring timely completion of deliverables and adherence to project goals.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Social Sciences, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in policy research, analysis, or program evaluation, preferably within government or a think tank.
- Strong understanding of Veterans Affairs policies, programs, and the challenges faced by veterans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Experience working directly with veteran organizations or government agencies.
- Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Stata).
- Project management experience.
- Military veteran status or direct experience working with military populations.
- Experience in grantsmanship or proposal writing.
