Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and curious Junior UI/UX Researcher for a student placement to join our dynamic team in Gateshead. This is an incredible opportunity for students currently pursuing a degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Design, or a related field, who are eager to gain hands-on experience in user research within a leading technology company. You will work alongside experienced UX Researchers, contributing to understanding user behavior, needs, and motivations for Google products. This role offers a unique chance to apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges, develop new skills, and make a tangible impact on product development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, planning, and execution of various user research studies, including qualitative (interviews, usability testing) and quantitative (surveys) methods.
  • Support participant recruitment efforts, scheduling, and logistical coordination for research sessions.
  • Help analyze research data, identify key themes, pain points, and user insights.
  • Contribute to the creation of compelling research findings, reports, and presentations for product and design teams.
  • Observe and take notes during user sessions, ensuring accurate and detailed documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with UI/UX designers, product managers, and engineers to integrate user insights into product development cycles.
  • Support the development of research artifacts such as personas, user journey maps, and empathy maps.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Cognitive Science, Information Science, Design, or a closely related field.
  • Foundational understanding of user-centered design principles and user research methodologies.
  • Familiarity with various research methods such as usability testing, interviews, surveys, and contextual inquiry.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated academic or personal project experience in user research or UX design, showcased through a portfolio.
  • Exposure to research tools such as Qualtrics, UserTesting, Optimal Workshop, or similar platforms.
  • Basic understanding of statistical analysis and experience with data visualization tools.
  • Proactive attitude with a strong desire to learn and contribute to a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
