Job Description
Are you an enthusiastic and compassionate individual looking to start a rewarding career in animal care? Dogs Trust Cardiff is seeking a dedicated Kennel Assistant to join our friendly team. This entry-level position is perfect for someone with a genuine love for dogs who is eager to learn and grow within the animal welfare sector. No prior experience is needed – we will provide comprehensive training to ensure you have all the skills required to excel in this vital role. As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a crucial part in the daily care and well-being of the dogs at our centre, ensuring they are comfortable, clean, and happy while awaiting their forever homes. This is an on-site position at our Cardiff rehoming centre.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing daily cleaning and disinfection of kennels, exercise areas, and other facilities to maintain high hygiene standards.
- Ensuring dogs have fresh food and water, adhering to specific dietary requirements.
- Assisting with the safe movement and handling of dogs during feeding, cleaning, and exercise times.
- Observing dogs for any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and reporting them to senior staff.
- Providing basic grooming and enrichment activities to keep dogs stimulated and content.
- Assisting with the administration of medication under supervision, following strict protocols.
- Maintaining accurate records related to dog care, feeding, and health observations.
- Supporting the rehoming team by ensuring dogs are ready for viewings and contributing to a positive environment for potential adopters.
- Contributing to a positive and supportive team environment, demonstrating strong teamwork and communication skills.
