Job Description

Schlumberger is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Drilling Fluids Engineer (Mud Engineer) to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role involves optimizing drilling fluid systems to ensure safe and efficient drilling operations. You will be responsible for the planning, execution, and analysis of drilling fluid programs, working closely with drilling teams at the wellsite. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise to maintain fluid properties, prevent drilling challenges, and provide real-time recommendations. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and monitor drilling fluid programs in accordance with project requirements and industry best practices.
  • Perform routine and specialized drilling fluid tests, interpret results, and recommend appropriate treatments to maintain optimal fluid properties.
  • Manage drilling fluid inventory and ensure efficient utilization of materials at the wellsite.
  • Troubleshoot drilling fluid-related issues such as lost circulation, wellbore instability, and differential sticking, providing immediate solutions.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and end-of-well reports on drilling fluid performance, costs, and inventory.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively with drilling superintendents, rig crews, and client representatives to achieve operational objectives.
  • Mentor junior staff and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and hydraulics.
  • Proficiency in drilling fluid testing equipment and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in challenging field environments.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications for data analysis and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry, or a related science discipline.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., IADC Well Control, IWCF).
  • Experience with advanced drilling fluid systems (e.g., WBM, OBM, SBM).
  • Knowledge of regional geological formations and drilling challenges.
  • Prior experience in a remote or challenging operational environment.
