Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Yard Spotter with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) to join our team in Pasco, WA. This is a full-time, day shift position, Monday through Friday, responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers within our busy distribution yard. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, excellent maneuvering skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Your primary role will be to ensure the smooth flow of inbound and outbound freight operations by strategically positioning trailers at docks and other designated areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently move trailers between docks, staging areas, and parking spots within the freight yard.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard tractors and trailers, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, dock workers, and management regarding trailer movements and yard status.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and site-specific procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in and around the yard tractor.
- Assist with other yard duties as needed to support operations.
- Accurately document trailer movements and positions using company systems.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A)
- Minimum 1 year of verifiable commercial driving experience (yard spotting experience preferred but not mandatory for CDL-A holders)
- Clean driving record
- Ability to operate a yard tractor safely and proficiently
- Strong understanding of DOT safety regulations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Physical ability to climb in and out of equipment, and work in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating yard hostlers or terminal tractors
- Familiarity with FedEx Ground or similar large-scale logistics operations
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Forklift certification (not required for this role but a plus for general yard knowledge)
