Job Description
Join the dedicated team at the YMCA of Greater Toronto in Port Credit as a Sports Complex Laborer. This vital role focuses on the outdoor maintenance and upkeep of our sports facilities and grounds, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all participants and visitors. You will be instrumental in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our outdoor areas, directly contributing to the positive experience of our community members. This is an on-site position requiring physical activity and a commitment to excellence in facility presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular groundskeeping tasks including mowing, weeding, planting, and mulching of landscape areas.
- Maintain athletic fields, ensuring proper line marking, surface preparation, and general upkeep to meet standards.
- Conduct minor repairs on outdoor equipment, fencing, and structures as needed, reporting larger issues.
- Operate and maintain various landscaping and power tools safely and efficiently, including trimmers, blowers, and mowers.
- Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow removal, leaf collection, and winterization of outdoor facilities and equipment.
- Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of all outdoor areas, including pathways, parking lots, and recreational spaces.
- Report any major maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards to supervisors promptly.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, guidelines, and organizational policies at all times.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 1 year) in groundskeeping, landscaping, or general outdoor labor.
- Ability to operate various landscaping tools and equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, power washers).
- Physical stamina and ability to perform demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Basic knowledge of plant care, turf management, and general outdoor maintenance practices.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing maintenance needs.
- Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record to operate company vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent education.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is an asset.
- Experience working in a sports facility, recreational environment, or similar large-scale property.
- Knowledge of basic irrigation system operation and maintenance.
