Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities in daily living activities, personal care, and community engagement.
  • Implement individualized care plans and behavioral support strategies as developed by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Facilitate and encourage participation in social, recreational, educational, and vocational activities within home and community settings.
  • Document observations, progress, and critical incidents accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that supports the individual's dignity and choices.
  • Collaborate effectively with individuals, their families, guardians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with household management tasks, medication reminders, and appointment coordination as required.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of the individuals you support.

Required Skills

  • Genuine empathy, compassion, and a passion for supporting others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Patience, understanding, and the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation and communication.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to challenging situations.
  • Physical ability to assist individuals with mobility, transfers, and other physical activities as needed.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (paid or volunteer) in a caregiving or support role.
  • Certificate or diploma in a related field (e.g., Community Support Worker, Health Care Assistant, Social Service Worker).
  • Knowledge of various developmental disabilities and person-centered approaches.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
