Job Description

Are you looking for an essential role that contributes directly to public safety and infrastructure development? Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Government Roadworks Flaggers / Traffic Control personnel. This is an entry-level opportunity with comprehensive paid training provided, making it perfect for those new to the field or looking for a career change. As a Flagger, you will play a crucial role in managing traffic flow, ensuring the safety of construction crews and the public in active roadwork zones. You will be responsible for clear communication, adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining a professional demeanor while representing our commitment to safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and effectively direct traffic around road construction sites using flagging signals and equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with motorists, pedestrians, and construction crew members.
  • Set up and maintain temporary traffic control zones, including signs, cones, and barriers, according to regulatory standards.
  • Monitor traffic patterns and adjust control measures as needed to ensure smooth flow and minimize delays.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety policies and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a secure work environment.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors immediately.
  • Maintain a high level of vigilance and awareness of surroundings at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with construction teams to facilitate their work while prioritizing public safety.

Required Skills

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to all company and government regulations.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation to various job sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in construction, labor, or a similar outdoor work environment is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of traffic control principles (training will be provided).
  • First Aid certification is an advantage.
