Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced AI Ethics Researcher with a strong focus on technology policy. This role will contribute to Google’s efforts in developing ethical AI systems and influencing responsible AI policies globally. You will conduct in-depth research, analyze emerging policy landscapes, and provide expert guidance on the ethical implications of AI technologies. This is a crucial role for someone passionate about the intersection of AI, ethics, and public policy, working to ensure AI serves humanity positively.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct cutting-edge research on AI ethics, focusing on fairness, privacy, transparency, and accountability in AI systems.
- Analyze global technology policy developments related to AI, machine learning, and data governance.
- Develop policy recommendations and frameworks for responsible AI development and deployment.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, legal, and public policy teams to integrate ethical considerations into the AI product lifecycle.
- Represent Google in external discussions, conferences, and working groups on AI ethics and policy.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, white papers, and presentations on AI ethics research and policy implications.
- Monitor and assess the societal impact of AI technologies and contribute to mitigation strategies for potential harms.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Law, Philosophy, Public Policy, Social Sciences) with a focus on AI ethics or technology policy.
- 5+ years of experience in research or policy analysis related to artificial intelligence, ethics, and technology governance.
- Deep understanding of current AI ethics frameworks, principles, and challenges (e.g., bias, interpretability, privacy).
- Proven ability to conduct rigorous interdisciplinary research and communicate complex findings clearly to diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with an ability to assess the ethical implications of advanced AI technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a major technology company, government agency, or think tank on AI policy issues.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to public policy development or regulatory advocacy related to AI.
- Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals or presentations at relevant conferences.
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and their practical applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
