Job Description
We are offering an exceptional internship opportunity for an aspiring Forensic Science student to gain hands-on experience by shadowing professionals in our state-of-the-art crime lab. This role is designed for individuals eager to observe the practical application of forensic principles in a real-world law enforcement setting. The intern will gain exposure to various forensic disciplines, laboratory procedures, and the overall workflow of a public safety forensic unit. This is a unique chance to learn directly from experienced forensic scientists and understand the vital role they play in criminal justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow forensic scientists and technicians during evidence analysis, processing, and documentation.
- Observe various forensic disciplines, including but not limited to, trace evidence, biology, chemistry, and digital forensics.
- Assist with basic laboratory tasks, such as organizing supplies, preparing workstations, and maintaining equipment under direct supervision.
- Learn about chain of custody procedures and proper evidence handling protocols.
- Attend departmental meetings and case discussions to understand investigative processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to strict safety and ethical guidelines within the lab environment.
- Document observations and experiences in a detailed logbook.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, Criminal Justice, or a related scientific field.
- Strong academic record.
- Excellent observation skills and attention to detail.
- High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken) is an asset.
- Demonstrated interest in forensic science and law enforcement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or observational experience in a laboratory setting.
- Basic understanding of criminal justice procedures.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols.
