Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Principal Environmental Scientist to join our thriving consulting team in Schaumburg, IL. This critical role demands a seasoned professional with a strong track record in environmental consulting, capable of leading complex projects, managing client relationships, and providing expert technical guidance. The successful candidate will drive project execution from conception through completion, ensuring regulatory compliance, delivering high-quality technical work, and contributing to business development efforts. Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead and project manager for complex environmental projects, including site investigations, remediation design and implementation, due diligence, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution and client satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, identifying new business opportunities and contributing to proposal development and client presentations.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff, fostering professional growth and knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, NEPA, TSCA, state-specific regulations).
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, work plans, permit applications, and other project documentation.
  • Conduct and oversee fieldwork, including sampling programs, site assessments, and remedial activities.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams in the execution of environmental projects, ensuring seamless coordination and effective communication.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in environmental consulting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in site investigation (Phase I/II ESAs), remediation technologies, and environmental due diligence.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and Illinois state environmental regulations (e.g., IEPA regulations).
  • Proven project management skills, including scope, budget, and schedule control.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and environmental reporting software.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering field.
  • Professional Geologist (PG), Professional Engineer (PE), or Certified Project Manager (PMP) certification.
  • Experience with industrial hygiene, health and safety regulations (OSHA), or sustainability consulting.
  • Demonstrated success in business development and client acquisition.
  • Familiarity with GIS software for data visualization and analysis.
