Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and diligent Seasonal Fruit Pickers to join our team for the upcoming wild blueberry harvest season in the New Brunswick region. This hands-on role involves the careful hand-picking and machine-assisted harvesting of blueberries, ensuring optimal quality and yield. While the operational base is Saint John, New Brunswick, the work will primarily take place in various local blueberry fields. A focus on efficient picking techniques and quality control, drawing parallels to best practices in high-yield regions such as the Okanagan Valley, will be beneficial. Key Responsibilities
- Perform hand-picking of wild blueberries according to quality standards and efficient techniques.
- Operate and monitor small harvesting equipment under supervision (if applicable).
- Carefully place picked fruit into containers, minimizing bruising and damage.
- Assist with the sorting and grading of fruit to ensure only high-quality produce is processed.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area within the fields and packing stations.
- Work collaboratively with the team to meet daily production targets.
- Follow all safety protocols and instructions from supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs), and reaching, for extended periods.
- Physical stamina and endurance to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, humidity, rain).
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to fruit quality.
- Reliable transportation to and from designated meeting points or fields.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in agricultural labor, fruit picking, or farm work.
- Familiarity with fruit quality standards and efficient harvesting techniques, possibly influenced by practices in regions like the Okanagan Valley.
- Ability to communicate in both English and French (an asset in New Brunswick).
- Basic knowledge of food safety practices.
