Job Description

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Pinterest Metadata Analyst with a strong focus on Machine Learning to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in optimizing the vast and complex metadata associated with Pinterest’s content, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and discoverability. Your expertise will directly contribute to enhancing Pinterest’s recommendation algorithms, search functionality, and overall user experience by improving the quality of underlying data for machine learning models. You will work closely with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to identify metadata gaps, propose solutions, and implement data governance strategies. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your analytical skills and understanding of machine learning principles in a high-impact environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze large datasets of Pinterest metadata to identify patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement in data quality and consistency.
  • Develop and implement robust metadata governance policies and best practices, ensuring alignment with machine learning model requirements.
  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers and data scientists to understand data needs, provide high-quality training data, and evaluate model performance related to metadata.
  • Design and execute experiments to test the impact of metadata changes on recommendation systems and search relevance.
  • Utilize SQL, Python, and other data analysis tools to extract, transform, and load metadata, preparing it for various analytical and ML applications.
  • Monitor and report on key metadata quality metrics, identifying areas for continuous improvement.
  • Proactively identify emerging trends in metadata management and machine learning to recommend innovative solutions.
  • Document metadata schemas, definitions, and processes for internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Data Analyst, Metadata Analyst, or similar role with an emphasis on data quality and governance.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning concepts, data pipelines, and how data quality impacts model performance.
  • Proficiency in SQL for complex data querying and manipulation.
  • Expertise in Python or R for data analysis, scripting, and automation.
  • Experience with large-scale datasets and distributed computing environments (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex data insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure.
  • Familiarity with graph databases or knowledge graphs.
  • Previous experience working with content platforms, e-commerce, or social media data.
  • Understanding of information retrieval systems and recommendation engines.
