Job Description
As an integral part of our essential services team, the Medical Center Porter plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our hospital. You will be responsible for the safe and timely movement of patients, equipment, specimens, and vital supplies throughout the medical center, adhering strictly to NHS standards and protocols. This physically demanding yet highly rewarding position requires a compassionate approach, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to patient safety and well-being. You will be a visible and trusted member of the hospital environment, supporting clinical staff and providing comfort to patients during their journey through our services.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients via beds, trolleys, or wheelchairs between wards, departments, and examination rooms.
- Move medical equipment, laboratory samples, patient records, and other vital supplies efficiently and securely.
- Deliver and collect specimens, blood products, and pharmacy items according to established procedures.
- Assist with the safe transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary, showing respect and dignity.
- Respond promptly to requests from clinical staff and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of equipment and work areas.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and manual handling guidelines.
- Provide a polite, compassionate, and helpful service to patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
