Job Description

Are you ready to embark on a fulfilling career in public safety? The City of Pasco Fire Department is seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as a Fire Truck Driver (Trainee). This entry-level position is designed for those with little to no prior experience in firefighting or heavy vehicle operation but possess a strong desire to serve and learn. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all required training programs for fire truck operation and emergency response.
  • Learn to operate and maintain various types of fire apparatus and equipment, including pumps, aerial devices, and specialized tools.
  • Respond promptly and safely to emergency calls, including fires, medical incidents, and other public safety emergencies.
  • Assist in the setup and operation of firefighting equipment at incident scenes under the supervision of senior personnel.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections, basic maintenance, and cleaning of assigned fire apparatus.
  • Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain physical fitness and readiness for demanding emergency situations.
  • Participate in public education and community outreach programs as directed.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Pasco's street system and geographical layout for efficient navigation.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record (CDL preferred or ability to obtain one during training).
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive physical examination and drug screening.
  • Ability to pass a rigorous background check.
  • Strong commitment to public safety and community service.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical stamina and agility to perform demanding tasks under pressure.
  • Residency within a reasonable commuting distance of Pasco, WA (or willingness to relocate).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a related field (e.g., EMS, military, heavy equipment operation).
  • Current EMT-B certification.
  • Basic knowledge of fire suppression techniques.
  • Volunteer experience with a fire department or emergency services organization.
  • Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field.
