Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Chemist to join our diagnostic medical lab in Downtown Austin, Texas. This full-time position involves working a shift differential schedule and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical diagnostic testing. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, validation, and implementation of new chemical assays, ensuring the quality and accuracy of laboratory results, and providing expert consultation on test interpretation. This role is pivotal in maintaining the high standards of our laboratory and directly impacting patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex analytical testing in clinical chemistry, ensuring accuracy and precision of results.
  • Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods and instrumentation for diagnostic testing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to laboratory instrumentation and assays.
  • Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities, including calibration, maintenance, and performance checks.
  • Interpret and report laboratory results, providing consultation to clinicians on complex cases.
  • Participate in laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance efforts (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
  • Train and mentor junior laboratory staff on analytical techniques and quality procedures.
  • Stay current with advancements in clinical chemistry and apply new knowledge to improve laboratory services.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and presentations as appropriate.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Clinical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Board Certification in Clinical Chemistry (e.g., ABCC).
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory.
  • Extensive knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, methodologies, and quality control principles.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data interpretation.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Experience with LIS (Laboratory Information Systems) and EMR (Electronic Medical Records).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with method development and validation for mass spectrometry-based assays.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a clinical laboratory.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma principles in a laboratory setting.
  • Track record of scientific publications or presentations in clinical chemistry.
