Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Welding & Fabrication Engineering Intern to join our manufacturing team in Palm Bay, FL. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic aerospace and defense manufacturing environment. The intern will support our engineering teams in various stages of welding and fabrication processes, from design review to production support and quality assurance. This role is ideal for students looking to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges and contribute to critical projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist engineering teams with the design, development, and improvement of welding and fabrication processes.
- Participate in the evaluation of new welding technologies, materials, and equipment.
- Support the creation and revision of manufacturing procedures, work instructions, and documentation.
- Conduct data collection and analysis related to weld quality, process efficiency, and material properties.
- Collaborate with production personnel to troubleshoot issues and optimize fabrication workflows.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, lean manufacturing principles, and cost reduction efforts.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and simulations related to structural integrity and material behavior.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards in all fabrication activities.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of welding processes (e.g., TIG, MIG, Arc welding) and metal fabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in an on-site manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or project experience in a manufacturing or engineering setting.
- Knowledge of material science, metallurgy, and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software.
- Active participation in engineering clubs or relevant academic projects.
