Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic individual with a passion for the outdoors and a desire to work in a vibrant, community-focused environment? The Canal & River Trust is seeking a dedicated Marina Support Hand to join our team in Chesterfield. While the title mentions ‘Coastal Region’, this role focuses on supporting our inland waterways operations, ensuring our marinas and visitor areas are welcoming, safe, and well-maintained. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of marina facilities, including jetties, pontoons, and visitor areas.
  • Perform routine checks and minor repairs on equipment and infrastructure.
  • Maintain cleanliness and presentation of the marina environment, including litter picking and waste management.
  • Provide friendly and helpful assistance to boaters and visitors, answering queries and offering local information.
  • Support water management activities, such as lock operation and water level monitoring.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist with mooring management and boat movement as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong practical skills and a hands-on approach to work.
  • Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with the public.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a marina, waterways, or outdoor leisure environment.
  • Basic boat handling skills or willingness to learn.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of local waterways and their history.
