Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Orchestra Teacher to inspire and educate our talented students. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in orchestral music, excellent pedagogical skills, and a commitment to fostering a love of music. This role involves teaching various levels of orchestral ensembles, preparing students for performances and competitions, and contributing to a vibrant arts program. You will be responsible for curriculum development, instrument maintenance, and creating an inclusive learning environment where every student can achieve their full musical potential. Key Responsibilities

  • Instruct high school students in various aspects of orchestral performance, music theory, and history.
  • Direct multiple orchestral ensembles, including string orchestra, symphony orchestra, and chamber groups.
  • Develop and implement engaging curriculum that meets state and national music education standards.
  • Prepare students for public performances, school concerts, festivals, and auditions.
  • Organize and oversee all aspects of orchestra concerts and events, including venue setup, program design, and student logistics.
  • Manage and maintain school-owned instruments and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other music faculty and school staff to support interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and upcoming events.
  • Attend department meetings, professional development workshops, and school events as required.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field with an emphasis in instrumental music.
  • Valid state teaching certification/licensure for music education at the high school level.
  • Demonstrated proficiency on a primary orchestral instrument (e.g., violin, viola, cello, bass).
  • Proven experience directing high school-level orchestral ensembles.
  • Strong knowledge of orchestral repertoire across various periods and styles.
  • Excellent classroom management and pedagogical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Education, Orchestral Conducting, or a related field.
  • Experience with music technology and digital music tools in an educational setting.
  • Prior experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Active participation in professional music education organizations (e.g., NAfME, ASTA).
  • Ability to teach additional music subjects or instruments.
