Job Description
As a Community Safety Officer specializing in Corporate Governance at Pinterest, you will play a crucial role in upholding the integrity and safety of our platform. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal corporate governance standards, and best practices for community safety. This role requires a deep understanding of online content moderation, legal frameworks, and ethical considerations in a global context. You will work cross-functionally with legal, policy, product, and engineering teams to address complex safety challenges and proactively mitigate risks, ensuring Pinterest remains a trusted and inspiring space for all users.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine community safety policies and guidelines in alignment with corporate governance principles and legal standards.
- Monitor and analyze emerging trends in online safety, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to inform policy updates.
- Collaborate with legal counsel to interpret and apply relevant laws and regulations related to user safety, data privacy, and content moderation.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to protect users from harm, including misinformation, hate speech, and exploitative content.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to integrate safety features and tools into the Pinterest platform.
- Lead or participate in cross-functional working groups to address critical safety incidents and policy enforcement challenges.
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership on community safety performance, compliance, and strategic initiatives.
- Advise on the ethical implications of platform features and moderation decisions, ensuring alignment with Pinterest's values.
- Contribute to the development of training materials for moderation teams on policy application and enforcement.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including industry associations, NGOs, and governmental bodies, on matters of online safety and corporate responsibility.
Required Skills
- 3+ years of experience in online safety, trust & safety, content moderation, or corporate governance within a technology company.
- Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks impacting online platforms (e.g., GDPR, CDA 230, DSA).
- Proven ability to analyze complex policy issues and develop practical, scalable solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Experience with risk assessment and mitigation strategies related to user-generated content.
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Public Policy, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Juris Doctor (JD).
- Experience with international policy development and global regulatory landscapes.
- Familiarity with visual content moderation challenges and solutions.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
- Experience in crisis management or incident response related to online safety.
