Job Description
Join the compassionate team at VCA Animal Hospitals as a Cattery Attendant! We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to provide exceptional care for our feline guests. This role is perfect for someone who loves cats, is highly responsible, and thrives in a dynamic environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring a safe, clean, and comfortable stay for all cats under our care, supporting our mission to deliver the highest standard of animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily feeding and fresh water to all cats according to specific dietary plans.
- Perform thorough cleaning and sanitization of cat enclosures, litter boxes, and common cattery areas.
- Observe and monitor the health, behavior, and appetite of all cats, promptly reporting any concerns or changes to veterinary staff.
- Administer prescribed medications accurately and on schedule, as directed by veterinary professionals.
- Engage with cats through gentle handling, play, and positive reinforcement to ensure their comfort and mental well-being.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of feeding, medication administration, observations, and cleaning schedules.
- Assist with client check-ins and check-outs for boarding cats, providing friendly and informative service.
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed to maintain a secure environment for both animals and staff.
Required Skills
- Genuine love, compassion, and respect for cats.
- Ability to meticulously follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and keen observation skills to detect subtle changes in animal health or behavior.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Effective communication skills to interact with colleagues and pet owners.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (paid or volunteer) working with animals in a professional setting (e.g., shelter, boarding facility, vet clinic).
- Basic knowledge of feline behavior, common health issues, and animal husbandry practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
