Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated GSE (Ground Support Equipment) Technician to join our team at the FedEx hub located near John Wayne Airport. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of ground support equipment, ensuring its operational readiness and safety. Your expertise will be vital in keeping our operations running smoothly and efficiently, directly impacting our ability to deliver on our promise of speed and reliability. This is an on-site position requiring hands-on work with various mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and inspections on all ground support equipment, including tugs, forklifts, belt loaders, air conditioners, ground power units, and other specialized airport equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic tools.
- Execute repairs and replacements of defective parts, components, and systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities performed, including parts used and hours worked.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
- Communicate effectively with operations personnel regarding equipment status, repair progress, and potential service interruptions.
- Participate in training and development programs to stay current with new equipment technologies and maintenance practices.
- Assist with equipment servicing, fueling, and cleaning as needed.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, automotive, or ground support equipment.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Solid understanding of electrical systems, including troubleshooting and repair of 12V and 24V DC circuits.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced airport environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE certification(s) in heavy truck, automotive, or equipment repair.
- Experience with specialized airport ground support equipment.
- Vocational or technical degree in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment repair, or a related field.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Forklift certification.
