Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Instrument Repair Specialist with a primary focus on woodwind and brass instruments to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of various instrument makes and models, a meticulous eye for detail, and a commitment to delivering superior repair and maintenance services. This role is crucial in ensuring our customers’ instruments are perfectly tuned and functioning, supporting their musical journeys and upholding Senseney Music’s reputation for excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics, cleaning, adjustments, and repairs on a wide range of woodwind and brass instruments, including flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and tubas.
  • Execute intricate tasks such as pad replacement, dent removal, valve lapping, key fitting, soldering, and structural repairs.
  • Consult with customers to understand their repair needs, provide accurate estimates, and explain repair processes clearly.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and service history for all instruments.
  • Manage and maintain repair shop inventory, ordering parts and supplies as needed.
  • Ensure the repair shop is kept clean, organized, and compliant with all safety standards.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to provide expert advice on instrument care and maintenance.
  • Stay current with industry trends, new repair techniques, and instrument technologies.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in woodwind and brass instrument repair.
  • Demonstrable expertise in instrument disassembly, reassembly, and regulation.
  • Proficiency with specialized repair tools and equipment.
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from a recognized instrument repair school or apprenticeship program.
  • Experience with orchestral string instruments or percussion repair is a plus.
  • Background as a musician, particularly with woodwind or brass instruments.
  • Familiarity with various instrument brands and their specific repair considerations.
