Job Description
Are you passionate about feline welfare and looking for a flexible role where you can make a real difference? The Guelph Humane Society is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Cattery Attendant to join our team on a casual basis. This role is crucial to ensuring the health, happiness, and well-being of the cats in our care. You will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment, providing daily care, and monitoring the cats for any signs of distress or illness. This position offers flexible shifts, ideal for individuals seeking to contribute their time and love for animals around their existing commitments. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of cat enclosures, communal areas, and cattery facilities following strict protocols.
- Provide fresh food and water to all cats according to their dietary needs and schedules.
- Monitor the health and behaviour of cats, reporting any changes, concerns, or signs of illness or injury to the veterinary team or supervisor.
- Administer medications as directed by veterinary staff, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
- Engage in socialization and enrichment activities with cats, including play, grooming, and gentle handling, to reduce stress and promote well-being.
- Assist with intake procedures for new arrivals and preparation for adoptions.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication, and observations for each cat.
- Ensure inventory of cattery supplies (food, litter, cleaning agents) is maintained and report needs.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and animal handling guidelines to ensure the safety of animals, staff, and volunteers.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated love and compassion for animals, especially cats.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions and protocols meticulously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinary, or cattery setting.
- Knowledge of feline behaviour and common health issues.
- Certification in animal first aid or CPR.
- Experience with record-keeping and basic computer skills.
