Job Description
The City of Warwick is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated 18-year-old individuals to join our Department of Public Works as City Maintenance Hands. This ongoing full-time position offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in municipal operations, contribute directly to the upkeep of our city’s public spaces, and learn valuable skills in a supportive team environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring our parks, streets, and public facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance of city parks, playgrounds, and public grounds, including litter removal, raking, and basic landscaping.
- Participate in the upkeep of city streets and sidewalks, which may include sweeping, debris removal, and minor repairs.
- Support public facilities maintenance, such as cleaning public restrooms, emptying trash receptacles, and general tidiness.
- Operate basic hand tools and power equipment under supervision.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Work collaboratively with fellow team members and supervisors to complete daily tasks efficiently.
- Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards observed during work.
Required Skills
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and a desire to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.
- Basic understanding of safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Rhode Island driver's license (or ability to obtain one).
- Prior experience in outdoor work, landscaping, or general labor is a plus, but not required.
- A positive attitude and a proactive approach to tasks.
